Background
With a plan for up to 200 new homes, over 3,000m² of commercial space including a new Market Hall, 6,000m² education space and just under 3,000m² of improved public spaces, this project will transform the way Stafford town centre looks and operates, making it a place people are proud to live and spend their time in.
The scheme was launched in February 2021, with the refurbishment of Market Square completed in October 2023 and the approach and entrance to Stafford Railway Station completed in May 2025. Demolition of the former Guildhall and former Co-op are also now complete, with two further sites to be cleared in summer 2026.
The opportunity
The launch of the Stafford Town Centre Development Framework sets out the vision and future development proposals across all the sites, with the intention of securing the first development partners by the end of 2026. The development opportunities include the new Market Hall at the heart of the town centre, residential townhouses, apartments and mixed use business space to the north, residential terraced houses and apartments to the south, residential apartments on Gaolgate and an education hub on Broad Street.
